Why you need a fitness partner?

While choosing a resolution is easy, sticking to it can be impossible. Having a workout partner may be just the thing you need to keep you going. Workout partners can help you stay committed to fitness and have fun. Here’s what you need to know to form an active relationship that gets results.

Getting active and taking part in regular exercise boosts both our physical and mental well-being. Socializing with friends has also been known to improve our mental health and combat feelings of loneliness. Why not combine the two and find a workout partner who also wants to have a great time and achieve their fitness goals?

1. Accountability-

The most arguably worthwhile reason to have a workout partner is accountability. Workout partners hold each other responsible for going to the gym because they keep each other on track and always reaching for their goals. If both go regularly, they will know whether a workout has been missed.

2. It’s fun-

A partner can provide motivation and support, and it also gives them a chance to socialize away from the family. Workout partners provide a sense of reliability and help transform the gym into something more desirable – an active social gathering.

3. Sharing goals and progress-

A workout partner offers companionship, but also creates a competition that can be extremely helpful when someone needs to push through that extra mile or squat. They can also give each other someone to celebrate milestones with. Both members can go out to dinner and feel comfortable getting healthy meals without giving in to temptation.

4. It Saves You Money-

Because we know how beneficial it is to have a workout partner, we reward you when you refer a family or friend to the Y. You can save up to 40% off your membership with our YMCA member referral program.

5. Validation-

Many peoples who are trying to lose weight get discouraged because of the rough weeks where weight doesn’t come off. Workout partners can see each other’s progress from the outside and provide motivation, positive feedback, and constructive criticism.

6. Friendly Competition-

Finding your fitness partner-in-crime is an excellent excuse to engage in a bit of healthy competition. Neither of you will want to fall behind during your workout, so it can be that added boost that will help you keep going and reach new heights.

7. Follow A Structure-

You can alternate your exercises so that your friend completes their set during your rest period and vice versa. Weight training with a partner is ideal, This should eliminate any distractions in between sets like scrolling through your phone on social media, something many of us are guilty of!

8. Stay Motivated-

Sometimes, all we need is a little bit of encouragement to help us push out that last rep, run that bit faster, go the extra mile, or hang in there for another minute, all for the kudos that your workout partner’s “well done”, high-five or pat on the back brings with it. Having a workout partner can help inspire you to keep going and get even better.

Research has shown that a partner's better fitness habits can rub off on us, inspiring us to reach higher levels of conditioning and the effect is not small. These researchers found that having a more fit buddy could increase your workout time and intensity by as much as 200 percent.

Hope this helped you :)
