Love In The Time of COVID-19 Pandemic

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

As social distancing becomes the new normal, every relationship is going through the trials and tribulations of a unique kind. Though the pandemic has wreaked havoc across the globe, it is love probably that is helping us maintain our sanity. Here is my take on how romantic relationships have evolved over the past few months.

Corona - social distancing

Video Dating

With people unable to see their sweethearts in persons, people have resorted to dating on video conferencing apps. Google Meet is the only meet possible these days with

Dating with masks

One study has estimated that lipstick sales have dwindled over the past few months owing to women wearing masks. Couples are prioritizing safety over beauty and thus dates with masks are becoming more and more common.

Relationships have become about more than just sex

People are demanding more from their relationships after the lockdown has given ample time to reflect and introspect.

Virtual sex on the rise

With Porn Hub reporting porn consumption to be on an all-time high, people are getting creative with spicing up their sex lives over technology. I'll leave it up to your interest and research skills to figure out more details on this one.

Big fat weddings versus Corona

The big fat Indian weddings are now restricted to 50 people making weddings small and sweet. Weddings these days are incredibly private with the closest of family members and friends making us introspect who are people we truly value in our lives.

Testing times for live-in couples

For the newly "moved in" together couple, the corona times have proved to be very testing indeed. Living together is hard. Under normal circumstances when one has to manage work, social life and sleep one would expect to spend about 4 hours a day with their partners. The pandemic has jacked up the number to four times that value to 16 hours a day with work from home and social distancing norms in place.

As they say love survives it all and we hope with our loved ones we will get through this.
